HOW TO Effectively Brand and Create Trust Through Social Media

April 3, 2009 – 9:00 am | by Kevin Skobac

Pretty much every marketer right now is trying to figure out the best ways to use social media.  Sometimes the best way to learn is to look at what’s working.  Mobile marketing company Ansible Mobile has set their sites on using social media to create differentiated brand identity and develop trust in a crowded competitive space.  Here’s how they are doing it:

1. Joining the conversation.

Ansible joined Twitter a few months ago and has since been aggressively piping in with commentary about the mobile industry and conversation around mobile marketing campaigns.  And the conversation isn’t just from behind the desk.  Employees from Ansible are using Twitter to announce when they are at conferences and on panels, pushing out questions, and asking for responses, all while in action.

2. Providing something of value.

Beyond the commentary, Ansible is curating the web for valuable content and resources about the mobile industry.  Ansible is using Twitter to post links to valuable articles, research, and resources for followers to read.  They are also starting to build out profiles on Youtube and Scribd filled with valuable videos, presentations, and papers on mobile marketing.  They are providing resources that peers potential clients need but may not know how to find on their own, all for free.

So what does all of this do for Ansible?  For one thing, the social interaction is expanding their awareness and introducing them to new contacts.  But also significant is that they’re using social media to prove their knowledge and value, creating a factor of personality and trust that can set them apart in a very competitive, homogeneous field.  It’s an investment in time, for sure, but I expect it to pay off for them.
