Quantcast
Quantcast allows users to view site audience traffic statistics broken down by geography (by City, State, U.S., and International) and by time period (day, week, or month) on a domain and sub-domain level. Demographic and Lifestyle data per site audience is also available, broken down by age, sex, income level, and interests. Limited additional audience behavior insight is listed, including related search and web browsing activity.
In addition to its media research tools, Quantcast has a media planning tool that allows a user to enter a target audience (including age, sex, race, income, DMA) and view which sites reach the target. Results can be filtered by category and audience threshold. Results can also be viewed in terms of ranking against specific website’s audience affinity scores (indexing the target audience against the audience of a specific site).
Quantcast, like all measurement tools, is only as good as the data it can collect. Publishers must place the Quantcast javascript throughout the site to be measured. If a site chooses not to place the javascript code it will be forced to put up with their “rough estimate” which appears to be loosely directional at best, you will also lose out on the valuable demographic data.
As far as the accuracy of directly measured sites, see a trend comparison with google analytics below. The charts are both graphed to view the last 90 days and are plotted daily for www.dietsinreview.com.

Absolute uniques from Google Analytics for the domain www.dietsinreview.com
Quantcast claims that the this domain received, on average, 456,474 visitors during the past 90 days (updated: 2/12/2009) while google analytics reports the real number to be slighly less with an average of 437,431 visitors over the past 90 days. In my opinion, the discrepancy is small enough to convince you not to worry when viewing stats of “directly measured” sites with Quantcast. View the full quantcast stats here
